Andy and his father-in-law Glenn have been supplying their locally made ‘Johnno’s’ jams and sauces to Salamanca Fresh ever since they bought the business in 2009.

Johnno’s Home Made was started by “Johnno” Johnston back in 1991, when at Launceston’s Yorktown Square Market, he sold 6 jams and 6 cakes made by his mother Phyllis. After the business was sold, Phyllis taught Andy and Glenn her secrets, staying on as Chief Jam and Sauce maker, until she felt comfortable passing over the recipe book. “We’ve continued to use Phyllis’ special techniques and handwritten recipes to ensure our products have that handmade quality style. We still only make our jams and sauces in small batches and use only local produce,” explains Andy.

“It tastes so good because there’s a lot of effort, love and passion put into it. We put in whole tomatoes and the ingredients are all natural.”

Today, Johnno’s Home Made sells 5 different types of sauces, relishes and chutneys, and 9 types of jams. “The people at Salamanca Fresh have been a great support to us – we supply so many sauces and chutneys to them – their support for our small business is never taken for granted,” says Glenn.

“In the end, if the customer’s not winning… then we’re not winning.”
